The Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) today held a strategic follow-up engagement with the Nigeria Correctional Service at the Service’s headquarters in Abuja. This meeting builds on BDIC’s active participation in the recently concluded national TVET Dialogue, convened a fortnight ago by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, GIZ, UN SMEDAN, and other prominent stakeholders.
The BDIC delegation was led by Chief of Staff to the Managing Director and Special Adviser on Stakeholder Engagement, Mr. Owoicho Igoji. The Nigeria Correctional Service was represented by Assistant Comptroller General, ACG JE Edwards, who is the Director of ICT and Innovation for the Service and her team.
The meeting centered on deepening collaboration between BDIC and the Correctional Service with a focus on leveraging technology and digital skills development to enhance vocational training and rehabilitation programs within the correctional system. This aligns with the objectives discussed during the TVET Dialogue, which emphasized inclusive and innovative approaches to technical and vocational education and training in Nigeria.
Mr. Igoji emphasized BDIC’s commitment to extending its digital infrastructure and capacity-building initiatives to new sectors, highlighting the company’s flagship programs as potential models adaptable for correctional education and skill development.
Assistant Comptroller General, ACG JE Edwards expressed enthusiasm about the prospects of integrating BDIC’s digital solutions to improve ICT training and innovation within Nigeria’s correctional facilities, underscoring the role of digital transformation in enhancing rehabilitation and future employability for incarcerated individuals.
This engagement reinforces BDIC’s strategic objective to foster partnerships that advance Nigeria’s digital economy and human capital development while supporting government efforts to modernize public institutions and promote sustainable socio-economic development.
Further collaborations are anticipated as both parties explore tailored digital interventions that can effectively transform correctional vocational training and expand digital literacy to marginalized populations.
