Makurdi, November 29, 2024 – In a landmark step toward modernizing governance and unlocking economic growth, the Benue State Government convened a high-impact stakeholders’ engagement to accelerate its digital transformation agenda. Organized by the Office of the Head of Service in collaboration with the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) and the Benue Digital Infrastructure Services Management Enforcement Agency (BENDISMEA), the event took place at the Precious Event Center in Makurdi.
This pivotal gathering brought together Permanent Secretaries from ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) across the state under the theme, “Design and Development of Implementation Requirements Document for 48 Benue State Government Digital Infrastructure Services.” The engagement aimed to lay a solid foundation for the Benue State Digital Economy Strategy and Government Digital Services Management System.
Embracing the Digital Future
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Head of Service, Dr. Leva Moses, mni, highlighted the necessity of digital transformation in governance. “Every part of the world is going digital, and Benue should not be left out as a state,” he asserted, emphasizing the urgency of the initiative.
Dr. Moses underscored the importance of collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity, urging Permanent Secretaries to actively contribute ideas that would ensure a seamless transition to e-governance. “Feel free to share your ideas or suggestions to drive the digitization process smoothly,” he added. His words set an inspiring tone for the day’s discussions, which revolved around shaping a digitally advanced and economically vibrant Benue State.
Key Presentation by BDIC’s Managing Director/CEO
A highlight of the event was the presentation by the Managing Director/CEO of BDIC, Mr. Gbande-Hembaor Terwase. He unveiled the ambitious plan to implement 48 digital infrastructure services designed to modernize public administration and enhance service delivery.
Mr. Gbande elaborated on how these services would transform the state’s governance landscape, positioning Benue as a leader in e-governance under the visionary administration of Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia. He detailed the phased implementation plan across MDAs, emphasizing its potential to create a unified, efficient, and transparent system of governance.
BENDISMEA’s Call to Action
Adding to the momentum, the Director-General of BENDISMEA, Mr. Solomon Adagba, stressed the strategic importance of the digital agenda. “This initiative is paramount to the future of Benue State,” he said, calling on participants to align with the vision and actively engage in the implementation process.
Economic Projections and Impact
The event also showcased the broader economic implications of the digital transformation, with BDIC presenting promising job creation and revenue generation projections across critical sectors:
- Health Sector: 14,721 jobs and ₦4.36 billion in revenue.
- Education Sector: 72,136 jobs and ₦4.4 billion in revenue.
- Agriculture and Natural Resources: 244 jobs and ₦18 million in revenue.
- Communication and Digital Economy: 34,947 jobs and ₦9.4 billion in revenue.
These figures illustrate the initiative’s transformative potential to not only enhance governance but also drive economic development and job creation, benefiting citizens across the state.
