In the pursuit of building a digitally empowered and economically prosperous Benue State, the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) is proud to share key developments that mark a significant step forward in the vision of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State. Under the leadership of the Managing Director/CEO, Gbande Hembaor, Terwase, and his dedicated team, BDIC has successfully advanced the digital economy and e-governance agenda through strategic engagements and partnerships that promise to transform Benue into a regional hub for innovation and technology.
A recent series of impactful discussions in Abuja with critical stakeholders such as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Layer3, and the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) have resulted in several groundbreaking accomplishments. These milestones lay a solid foundation for the realization of the Benue Digital Initiative and bring us closer to achieving our shared goal of making Benue a digitally inclusive state.
1. Defending Key Licensing Applications with the NCC
A major achievement for BDIC was the successful defense of our application for several critical licenses from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). These licenses include the Fibre Optic License, Internet Service Provider (ISP) License, and Microwave License—key enablers of the high-speed connectivity and communication infrastructure needed to foster digital growth in Benue State.
These licenses will allow BDIC to establish robust, state-of-the-art infrastructure that will enhance internet connectivity, promote e-governance initiatives, and fuel economic development. With these licenses in hand, BDIC is poised to lay the groundwork for a digitally connected and accessible Benue, where residents and businesses can thrive in a fast-paced, tech-driven world.
2. Strategic Partnerships for Capacity Building and Digital Transformation
A highlight of our recent engagements was our partnership discussions with Layer3, a renowned international digital infrastructure company. Founded by industrious Benue indigenes, Layer3’s innovative approach to digital solutions aligns perfectly with BDIC’s vision for Benue State.
Through this partnership, BDIC will gain access to world-class digital solutions that will drive capacity building in key sectors of the state’s economy. Layer3’s expertise will not only create job opportunities for the people of Benue but also improve digital access, enabling residents to take full advantage of the benefits of a modern digital economy.
3. Collaboration with Digital Bridge Institute (DBI): Building the Workforce of Tomorrow
Another milestone in our journey is the collaboration between BDIC and the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI). We are in the process of establishing two cutting-edge study centers in Benue State focused on digital technologies and e-governance training. These centers will serve as hubs for capacity development, equipping public sector administrators, youth, and entrepreneurs with the essential skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
With a focus on equipping Benue’s workforce with skills in digital communication, e-governance, and information technology, BDIC is taking a proactive approach to addressing the skills gap and creating a future-ready workforce. This initiative is part of BDIC’s broader strategy to foster long-term economic development, transparency, and efficiency within government operations.
4. Driving the Key Pillars of the Digital Economy
At BDIC, we are fully committed to advancing the pillars that will drive Benue’s digital transformation. These pillars include:
- Promoting Skills Development Across Sectors: We recognize the importance of upskilling our workforce to ensure that the people of Benue can seize new opportunities in the digital economy.
- Creating Job Opportunities: BDIC is committed to fostering an environment where local talent can thrive through digital job creation and entrepreneurship.
- Strengthening E-Governance Initiatives: Our work continues to focus on implementing e-governance solutions that enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public sector operations.
- Driving Economic Growth through Digitalization: By advancing digital infrastructure, BDIC is positioning Benue State to become a regional leader in technology, attracting investment, innovation, and new business ventures that will drive sustainable growth.
A Vision for a Digitally Inclusive Benue
As we continue on this transformative journey, BDIC remains steadfast in its commitment to realizing the vision of a digitally inclusive Benue. Through these initiatives and partnerships, we are paving the way for a future where technology empowers every individual and sector within the state. We believe that digital transformation is the key to unlocking the full potential of Benue State, creating a vibrant economy, and improving the lives of our citizens.
The progress we’ve made thus far is a testament to the unwavering dedication of the BDIC team and the support of His Excellency, Governor Hyacinth Alia. As we build on these milestones, we look forward to even greater strides in the coming months and years, as we collectively work towards a brighter, more connected future for Benue.
