ATCON HONORS GOVERNOR ALIA WITH THE 2025 DIGITAL EXCELLENCE AWARD
Today, 28th November 2025. The Group Managing Director/CEO of the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) and President/CEO of Africa Digital Infrastructure Company (AfDIC) accompanied the Deputy Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, mni, to the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, to proudly receive the prestigious ATCON 2025 Digital Excellence Award on behalf of His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Executive Governor of Benue State.
The award conferred by the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), the backbone of digital infrastructure development and telecommunications leadership in Nigeria, recognizes Governor Alia’s visionary and transformative contributions to digital governance, broadband expansion, and inclusive innovation across Benue State.
The Digital Excellence Award specifically celebrates the Governor’s bold initiatives, including the introduction of Free Right of Way (RoW) for all telecommunications operators laying fibre optic cables across Benue State for the first time. An unprecedented policy that has attracted investment and accelerated broadband penetration.
It also acknowledges His Excellency’s hosting of the first Benue Telecommunications Summit, which directly addressed sectoral challenges and strengthened collaboration with telecom operators, regulators, and industry leaders. These strategic actions have positioned Benue as a national model for digital-enabled development and technological advancement.
Governor Alia’s achievements continue to transform Benue’s digital landscape through the deployment of fibre optic infrastructure across 18 MDAs, the ongoing training of 40,000 civil servants on digital governance, and the establishment of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy. His creation of the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) as the state’s engine room for digital public infrastructure, ICT innovation, and e-governance reflects a futuristic vision that aligns with global digital transformation standards.
These reforms collectively demonstrate his leadership’s depth, foresight, and capacity to build a knowledge-driven, technologically competitive state.
This esteemed national recognition further reaffirms His Excellency’s commitment to youth empowerment, digital inclusion, and the modernization of public service. As BDIC and AfDIC, we reaffirm our unwavering support and 100% partnership with His Excellency, especially as his digital vision aligns strongly with our flagship 23,000 youth digital skills training program across the 23 Local Government Areas which the application portal is up, and our collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Creativity on the establishment of the Benue State Youth Helpdesk.
Together, we will continue to deepen broadband access, empower communities, and accelerate the digital and socio-economic transformation of Benue State.
