Benue State Artisans Hub Driving Structured Artisan Governance
The Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) on 20th January 2026 held a successful technical engagement and live demonstration of the Benue State Artisans Hub at the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development in Makurdi.
The engagement offered officials of the Ministry a detailed overview of the platform, highlighting its full design and functionality across artisan registration, certification processes, governance controls, revenue transparency and institutional oversight. The session demonstrated how artisans, ward agents, service seekers and government ministries operate within a single secure, government controlled digital ecosystem, ensuring that only verified and ministry approved artisans are listed on the public marketplace.
Discussions during the session focused on the platform’s governance framework, particularly ward based agent accountability, ministry led approvals, automated and transparent revenue sharing, and role based access control. It was clearly stated that the Artisans Hub does not replace existing regulatory structures but rather strengthens statutory authority by providing traceability, identity verification, digital certification and reliable records to support compliance and enforcement.
Officials of the Ministry actively engaged on issues relating to certification standards, assessment models, enforcement mechanisms and liability. They reaffirmed that all artisan certifications remain fully under the control of the Ministry, with the digital platform serving strictly as an enabling tool to enhance efficiency, transparency and governance outcomes.
The solution was commended for its depth, adaptability and alignment with public sector accountability standards.
The initiative aligns with the digital transformation agenda of the Benue State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, and reflects BDIC’s commitment to accountable and people centred governance.
BDIC also acknowledged the strategic leadership of its GM/CEO Gbande Hembaor Terwase and appreciated the valuable feedback from the Ministry, which will guide ongoing improvements as Benue State continues to set a strong standard in artisan governance and skills professionalisation.
