BDIC Presents Strategic Digital Identity and e-Origin Platforms to Bureau of Internal Affairs
Today, the Group Managing Director/CEO, Benue Digital Infrastructure Company PLC (BDIC) Gbande Hembaor Terwase AFCPN, hosted the team from the Benue State Bureau of Internal Affairs in his office for a detailed presentation and live demonstration of two strategic digital platforms: the Benue State Integrated Citizens/Residents Identity Management System and the Benue State Digital Certificate of State of Origin System.
This engagement marks a significant milestone in Benue State’s journey toward modern, citizen-centred governance. Both innovations are designed to simplify access to essential government services by enabling citizens to securely obtain and verify their identity and state of origin from any location, without the delays and risks associated with manual processes.
The Integrated Citizens/Residents Identity Management System provides a unified, secure and verifiable digital identity framework for all residents of Benue State. It will strengthen service delivery across health, education, taxation, social protection and security sectors by ensuring that government interacts with citizens through accurate and trusted identity records.
Complementing this, the Digital Certificate of State of Origin System eliminates forgery, reduces processing time, and enhances transparency by providing tamper-proof, verifiable certificates accessible online. Together, these platforms significantly reduce administrative bottlenecks, lower costs, and improve citizens’ trust in public institutions.
For government, the benefits are profound. These systems provide reliable, real-time data for evidence-based planning, budgeting and policy formulation, while enabling better population management, targeted interventions and inclusive service delivery. They strengthen citizen engagement by creating a dependable digital interface between the state and its people, enhancing accountability and improving feedback mechanisms. With accurate demographic and residency data, Benue State will be better positioned to plan infrastructure, health services, education programmes and social investments in line with actual needs.
At the global level, these initiatives align strongly with international best practices in digital identity and e-governance, and directly support the World Bank’s Digital Identification for Development (ID4D) agenda, which promotes inclusive, secure and scalable identity systems as a foundation for development.
They also complement the mandate of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) by promoting interoperability, harmonisation and national identity integration. By advancing secure digital identity and certification systems, Benue State is positioning itself as a leading sub-national model for digital governance in Nigeria and across Africa, contributing meaningfully to global digital transformation, financial inclusion and sustainable development goals.
